About Heather

Heather serves as public relations intern for the Metropolitan Drug Commission (MDC). She is responsible for preparing MDC’s four-page quarterly “Alert” print newsletter and e-newsletter, writing and distributing press releases to local news outlets and drafting articles for “AAA Going Places” magazine. In addition, she updates new content to the organization’s website and engages in MDC’s social media marketing.

Her past experience includes work in communication as a member of the public relations and events staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee (BBBS). During her time at BBBS, she helped coordinate and implement Bowl For Kids' Sake 2010, wrote and distributed “e-blasts” to more than 1,000 supporters and contributors and marketed the organization through social media initiatives.

In addition, Heather has interned for Moxley Carmichael public relations firm and WBIR-TV, Knoxville's NBC affiliate. Prior to that, she served as copy editor and reporter for the Tennessee Journalist.

In her free time, Heather utilizes social media tools to communicate with friends and family and stay up-to-date on the latest trends in social media. She is an active member of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and MySpace.

Heather is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in Communication.
